Friends, get ready for some drugstore beauty goodness to brighten up your day! A few months back I was sent an amazing PR package from Pixi with their ENTIRE collection of Liquid Fairy Lights and Glowy Gossamer Duos. Both of these products have created quite a bit of hype in the beauty community, making me more than excited to put them to the test. After the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows revived my love of all things glittery on the eyes, I’ve been on the hunt for a more affordable way to get my sparkle on. With a $9 price difference, the Liquid Fairy Lights certainly will help you save some cash. But is the formula truly on par with Stila’s? Let’s take a look!
Pixi Beauty is Cruelty-Free beauty brand that aims to help you put your best face forward. With a strong focus on high-quality skincare, and color cosmetics that let your natural beauty shine through, Pixi has been a go-to brand for anyone that wants to feel a little more flawless without a whole lot of fuss. They’ve got a beautifully soft and feminine aesthetic, and a price point that falls nicely between drugstore and high-end brands. Pixi products can be found in Target stores, as well as online from their website.
Liquid Fairy Lights
Shop At Pixi Beauty: Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights ($15)
The Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights are glimmering cream eyeshadows packed with tons of ethereal sparkle. They can be worn on bare lids, or layered over your eyeshadow for a glittery finishing touch. Currently there are 5 shades available, each retailing for $15. Much like the Stila Glitter & Glow shadows, the Liquid Fairy Lights have a paddle shaped, flocked applicator that makes it very easy to swipe or dab the product across your lids.
While some people may have hoped to see a few more colorful offerings within the Liquid Fairy Lights lineup, I think the shade selection is very on-brand for Pixi. Neutral and natural shades tend to dominate across all of their color cosmetics, so I was unsurprised to see these more classic tones. Given the popularity of this product, though, I hope they’ll decide to expand the shade range in the future. I could see a deeper, smokey shade being a nice addition, as well as a traditional silver!
Formula & Performance
To be honest, its truly difficult to capture the brilliance of these shadows in a still photograph. In real life (especially in direct sunlight) they’re extremely sparkly and reflective. I think that the quality of the glitter particles themselves aren’t quite on the same level as Stila’s. They’re a bit more plastic-y looking and also perhaps a bit larger in size. Still, they add a very beautiful sparkle to the eyes and are infinitely less messy than a loose glitter.
In terms of lasting power, I don’t notice an extreme amount of fallout on my face when wearing this product. The more heavily you pack it on, the more likely it is that you’ll have a little bit of flaking, but it certainly wasn’t worse than the Glitter & Glows. Overall I would say that if you’re looking to experiment with glitter but aren’t to keen on spending upwards of $20 to do so, these are a great budget-friendly alternative!
Glowy Gossamer Duos
Shop at Pixi Beauty: Glowy Gossamer Duos ($18)
If there is one trend that doesn’t seem to be leaving the beauty industry any time soon, it’s highlighting. From softly radiant, to full-on blinding, it seems that us beauty junkies can never have too many options to glow. Now, when it comes to affordable highlighters, things can be pretty hit-or-miss. Fortunately, these Glowy Gossamer Duos are about as far from a miss as you can get.
Formula & Performance
With a baked geleé formula, these highlighters deliver a glossy, reflective sheen. They aren’t metallic, glittery, or chunky, nor do they greatly emphasize texture on the skin. They’re just buttery smooth, with an almost wet-looking finish. To the touch the product feels almost creamy, and you’ll notice there is very little to no powder kickup in the pan. At first you might not even think you’re getting any product on your brush, but as soon as you start to apply to the skin, the glow will seriously deliver. It also has great lasting power, and won’t disappear off your face after an hour.
As far as shade selection goes, I would love to see more offerings to this lineup, mostly because the formula is so spectacular. The two versions that exist currently do cover a wide range of skin tones, but another option or two would be nice to see. As it stands, Delicate Dew leans more cool and pink toned, and I think will flatter fair and light skintones best, while Subtle Sunrise leans more golden and peach and will probably suit medium and deeper complexions. You can apply each shade in the duo separately, or swirl them together to create a shade perfectly customized to you.
The one last note I’ll make on this product is the price. Pixi is truly a mid-range brand: they’re not quite drugstore, but also not quite high end. That being said, in comparison to most drugstore highlighters, $18 seems like a pretty steep asking price. On the flip side, a Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector will set you back $38. For the quality, I think the price of this product is incredibly fair, but I do appreciate that it may not be as budget friendly as something from Milani or Wet N’ Wild.
Honestly, these may be some of Pixi’s best color cosmetics releases to date. Not only are they totally on-trend, but they also bring a level of quality that truly rivals high-end competitors. I would love to see both the Liquid Fairy Lights and the Glowy Gossamer Duos expand their lineups to include more shades, knowing that the formulas are so good.
If you’ve tried either of these Pixi products, I would love to hear your thoughts! Did you love them as much as I did? What is your favorite shade? Leave a comment below and let me know!
